Sloths unite- A beginner’s guide to slothing and surviving in the new age (with apps)
Another day gone, another day my resolve tested to make that super easy-to-make recipe I’ve seen on Tasty- all because I’m too lazy to actually even order the ingredients necessary. The point I’m trying to make here is- the only reason I stay afloat with any semblance of a semi stocked pantry is because of my trusty Evernote synced across my devices. Over the years I’ve realised that my dependence on apps has increased ten-fold and although I can’t decide if that’s a good thing, I have to admit it sure has helped me manage my lifestyle.
So, in solidarity with every millennial out there, here’s a little insight into a very sloth friendly phone:
1. The Big 5: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Whatsapp
Well, these serve as my lifelines to the human race at the moment (& yes, I know how that sounds!). As someone who does this for a living, I constantly stay updated on all these social media platforms.
2. Sustenance: Big Basket
Sloths everywhere- bid your grocery shopping woes adieu for this is a must have app. It is so coveted that it takes the prime spot of being on screen 1 of my phone! From freshly cut fruits (don’t judge, yes I order them cut!) to household items, this app for is a gift for people who get home just in time just when the store closes.
3. Music: Saavn, Shazam
Saavn: I absolutely love this app. Whenever I’m on the go I have Saavn playing on my phone and during sporadic moments that I don’t get data while traveling, I lose my mind. They still have a long way to go in terms of playlist suggestions like Spotify does, but I’m ok with that honestly. I’ve gone pro with it and never looked back!
Shazam: Say you’re at a party or in my case a weird Chinese restaurant that is playing Spanish music and you just can’t wrap your head around that song whose name you can’t seem to remember- Shazam helps with just that! It’s the one app that literally brought me to tears the first time I heard of it. It also saves your list of songs searched. Tears, real tears!
4. Daily Grind: Paytm
If you’re living in India, you know your world revolves around this app. Since demonetization hit the economy, paying via Paytm has become a nationally acceptable form of payment. From vegetable vendors to restaurants to uber, it is widely accepted and loved. Plus if you like being lured, you can even pay your utility bills and stand a chance to win lots of stuff. I do it every month in hopes of winning that 42- inch LED TV.
5. Fooood: Zomato, Swiggy
The most satiating of apps. Zomato has been a real life saver for me. For working professionals living by themselves, we know what a boon it is to order take out. Zomato has consistently surprised me with their delivery service and safe to say I am happily dependent on it.
6. Health: My Calendar
For a person like me who dreads a visit to the gynac, having this app removes the edge a bit. This period tracker is a great app that saves a monthly record of your cycle. Totally worth installing, ladies. Sloth certified.
7. Shangri-la: ASUS PC Remote link
Well, if I had a nickel everytime someone asked me how I managed without a chromecast! This nifty little app connects my laptop and my regular TV & turns it into a smart one. Thus, the task of dragging myself to the laptop is no longer a challenge! I can navigate through Netflix and YouTube with my phone right beside me, which now acts as a trackpad for the browser on my TV. Totally brilliant, totally sloth friendly.
8. Work: Flock
I might have a biased opinion since I work here, but it honestly is a lifesaver. For me, work starts and ends with Flock. It’s the only way my whole company communicates, which makes it quite indispensable as a work tool. Quite handy, esp. for teams spread across the board.
